About West Bali

Menjangan Island
Just off the northwest coast of Bali lies the tiny island Pulau Menjangan, surrounded by hectares of excellent coral reef. The island, a favorite destination for both snorkellrs and divers, is situated in the protected marine reserve of the Bali Barat National Park and has a very diverse eco biology.

There are several dive sites to choose from at Menjangan with good conditions and excellent visibility. It's also an interesting site for snorkeling. Menjangan also has a wreck known as the 'Anker' because of its heavily encrusted anchor at the top of the reef. Fixed moorings have been built to prevent damage and the island is reached by a 30 minute boat ride from Labuan Lalang.

Apart from a high diversity of coral species and colorful, tropical fish there are many kinds of sea- and shorebirds frequenting the island. Also the Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is sighted frequently in the area.

Menjangan is often referred to as Deer Island as it is the habitat of the Barking Deer or Muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak). Visitors can regularly spot these deer at the secluded, sandy beaches of the island.

To reach Menjangan island you can hire a motorboat from Labuhan Lalang (30-40 min). Labuhan Lalang lies at the main road to Singaraja and is accessible by minibus from Gilimanuk/Singaraja.

Pemuteran is an ideal place to plan excursions to West Bali National Park, comprising the nature reserve of Menjangan Island and the uplands in the west. Pemuteran is also well known for its Turtle Hatchery Project  - Read more.....

After passing a huge rock face that is close to the ocean and the nearby Pulaki Temple, tourists can reach the newly developed Pemuteran beach resort that offers fair accommodation and black sand beaches but can be consider to be a little far from Bali's cultural centers.

Bali Barat National Park
Covering more than 76,000 hectares, West Bali National Park is situated in two regencies, Jembrana and Buleleng. The entrance on the Jembrana side of the park is at Melaya on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road.
